Magnus Carlsen - Norwegian Chess Grandmaster


Born Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen on the 30th of November, 1990, the nineteen-year old Norwegian chess prodigy is destined for the history books as one of the greatest chess players of our time. On January 1, 2010 the FIDE (The Fédération Internationale des Échecs or World Chess Federation) rating list was published, ranking Carlsen number one in the world, the youngest chess champion ever to receive the coveted ranking.

Carlsen's average rating from tournament results from July 2009 and the January 2010 FIDE list, qualify him for the Candidates Tournament of the World Chess Championship 2011.

With former world champion, Garry Kasparov, as Carlsen's personal trainer, the 19-year old will strive to defend his title at the Championship in 2011.
